Pre-assembled process modules fabricated in our yard and set in place during a planned turnaround.
The owner had one planned turnaround to tie a major expansion into a running facility. Every extra day of shutdown meant lost production. Building the expansion piece by piece in the unit would have taken far longer than the turnaround allowed, so the work had to move off site.
The approach.

- 01
Designed to ship
Engineering split the expansion into 42 modules sized for the haul route, with tie-in points located at module edges.
- 02
Built and tested in the yard
Piping, steel, instruments and cable were installed and pressure tested in our fabrication yard, at ground level and in good light.
- 03
Heavy haul and set
Modules moved on self-propelled transporters and were set by crawler crane in a sequence rehearsed in the model.
- 04
Tie-ins inside the window
Hot work permits, blinds and welds were planned joint by joint, and mechanical completion was walked down with operations.
The outcome.
“Every hour of work we moved into the yard was an hour the plant did not have to stay down.”
