A utility-scale solar plant with tracker arrays, a collector substation and a 12-mile tie line.
The plant covers open, windswept ground where wind, caliche and long haul distances shape every day. Tens of thousands of piles had to be driven to depth, often through hard layers that stop a pile short. The collector substation and the 12-mile tie line had to be ready when the arrays were, or the power had nowhere to go.
The approach.

- 01
Pile tests before production
Test piles across the site mapped refusal zones early, so the crews had a pre-drill plan before the main pile run.
- 02
A production line in the field
Piling, tracker, module and wiring crews moved block by block in a fixed rhythm across the arrays.
- 03
Substation and line in parallel
The collector substation and tie line were built alongside the arrays, with the line energized ahead of the first block.
- 04
Commissioned in blocks
Each block was tested and brought online in turn, adding generation while the rest of the plant was still in construction.
The outcome.
“Out there, the job is a rhythm. Keep every crew moving at the same pace and the megawatts follow.”
